With packing lists everywhere these days, it is easy to feel like you’ll never have everything you need. We buy and we pack and we buy some more. We sort out all the clothes we’ll bring, and then we head back to our closet and grab a few more, “just in case” items, and before we know it, we’re heading back to the garage to grab our larger suitcase.
So as you’re preparing for your next adventure, and trying to fit everything in your suitcase, here are some helpful items that you can actually remove from your suitcase.
- Shoes – Women, I’m talking to you. We think we need a pair of shoes for every outfit. And unless you’re walking a runway, chances are there are 1-2 pairs of shoes that you can immediately put right back in the closet. Most of us will actually wear only 2 pairs of our shoes that we bring for most of our trip. A pair of comfortable walking shoes, and a pair of dressier shoes for certain occasions, formal dinners, etc. Some of us might opt for a pair of flip flops/sandals for the pool as well. So three pairs of shoes, yes please. Okay, time to remove the other 5 pairs!
- Jewelry – Women, this is for you too. First of all, don’t take anything you’d be devastated to lose. Between your actual traveling, staying in different hotel rooms, etc., there is a chance that something so small, like you’re favorite diamond earrings, could easily get left behind on that nightstand. Pick a couple pairs of earrings, necklaces, and bracelets that go with most of your wardrobe. Less to pack and less to worry about losing too!
- Full Size Toiletries – I know most have their favorite brands of products, and don’t think they’ll find them in a miniature version. But, even the most fancy of brands have a travel size version. Small bottles mean less space and less weight. So check online, checkout a beauty supply store, or at least purchase smaller containers to pour your products into.
- Books/Guidebooks – If you have a smartphone, you have an app that will replace any book or guidebook that you have. I know some of you love to have a book to read by the pool, while on the train, etc., so for those of you, just narrow it down to one book. So take out the bulk and the weight.
- More than One Jacket – Unless you are headed on an Alaskan Cruise or other cold-weather destination, chances are one jacket will be all you need. For those of you concerned with fashion, choose a lightweight neutral jacket to match all your clothing. No need to pack different colors for each day. Same goes for ladies who prefer a cardigan instead. Pick 1-2 instead of a different one for each day.
Remember to pack for your destination. Consider what you’ll need most, and take out any items that are “what if” items, especially if it is something that can easily be purchased at the destination. We’d love to hear your input. What could you take out of your suitcase?
